Photo Review

I thought my chance of shooting this legendary band had passed following their ‘farewell’ concerts in 2010. So ‘almost’ all back again for a 2016 reunion tour and I finally got my chance. And Mick Hucknall and the band did not fail to impress. A split performance of one half being the hits and the other where they performed the Stars album in full, first released back in September 1991.

I was a great fan of their early stuff, the timeless Money’s Too Tight (to Mention), I had the 12” Cutback Mix on vinyl back in ’85, and then came the best video ever shot in Yorkshire! the impeccable Holding Back the Years, shot on location in Whitby and directed by Tony van den Ende. After a stuttering start when first release the video eventually help propel the song to the very top of the US Billboard Charts (only #2 in the UK)

Possibly my favourite album was their second; Men and Women then my interest waned a bit after that and subsequent albums. Make no mistake, Mick’s voice is incredible and strong and it’s such a pleasure to hear it live.
